About Our School

Kilmaine Primary School and Nursery Unit is situated within a mature suburb of outer Bangor.  The main school building and purpose built Nursery Unit are modern and spacious, allowing excellent access for all needs.  The Nursery Unit consists of main room, quiet room, boot room and other interior learning areas.  There is also an office, kitchen and toilet facilities within the nursery setting for adults and nursery children.  A particular highlight of the nursery is the extensive outdoor gardens and Forest School areas, where the children can explore through carefully scaffolded play experiences in sand, water, forested garden areas and willow domes, with access to physical equipment to enhance their gross motor development.  The nursery unit is secure, self-contained and accessible for all.

The main school building at Kilmaine Primary School is a large, well-proportioned site housing three classes each of year one to seven pupils, 21 classes.  There is also a large assembly hall, separate dining hall, two library areas, an ICT suite, designated first aid zone, a ‘Rainbow Room’ or sensory den and a series of smaller learning support rooms also used for peripatetic teaching.  There are two disabled toilets, one fitted with changing table, shower and hoist.  Year 6 and year 7 classes are located upstairs in the building, with access via stairs or a lift from the first aid area.  Each class has their own cloakroom and toilet areas and each year group shares a resource area for additional learning and play-based teaching opportunities.

Kilmaine Primary School is fortunate to have extensive grounds and can boast of purpose-built outdoor classrooms specific to the key stage they are designed for in the Foundation Stage courtyard, the Key Stage One outdoor classroom and the Key Stage Two outdoor classroom.  There is also an array of hard-surfaced playgrounds for each year group, a large grass pitch and now three separate Forest School learning zones which further enhance outdoor learning opportunities, wellbeing and bringing the curriculum outdoors in the natural environment.

All areas of the building and outdoor site at Kilmaine Primary School and Nursery Unit are fully accessible to all persons.
